Vincennes Rotary Club
Carolina Cherry…..Noon….Every Tuesday
July1, 2008
Food : “Day before payday” special [macaroni and cheese/green beans]
Call to order: President Laura
Invocation: Rotarian John, alone, sang… You Never Walk Alone
Four Way Test: David Gardner
July Birthday Table: Rotarians Kim, Chooch, Jim, and last but most important… Anne.
[Chooch announced he had his birthday check ready to purchase books for kids in our area schools/$15 to a
school of his choice]
Happy Bucks: Rotarian Jane was happy to adopt another cat.
Rotarian Larry was happy to attend a recent Army band concert.
Rotarian Jim was happy to see Rotarian Rick help flood victims.
Rotarian Chooch was happy anyone even knows who the Chicago Cub’s are.
Rotarians Ray and Myrna each had grand-daughters recently get married.
Fines: Rotarian Ray [the mouth from the South] accepted a six-month prepay from Rotarian Al; predicting many
pictures in the newspapers yet to come. Ray also noticed many Rotarians sans lapel pins, and warned of dire straits
ahead.
Other Business: President Laura announced a short board meeting following this meeting, and presented Chooch
with a plaque recognizing him for his past year as an outstanding president of our club. And finally, Laura
recognized Rotarian Jim as a Paul Harris Fellow, once again.
Program: Rotarian Jim introduced future Rotarian Dennis Latta as a vicar of an Episcopal Church as well as director
of Grouseland. Therefore Dennis informed us about a verbal cow carrying a Bible, and how we are going
somewhere when we really don’t think we are moving. Dennis went on to note Grouseland as the oldest brick house
in Indiana. [He made no mention if Grouseland had a brick outhouse.] Dennis told of how Harrison had seven
slaves, but called them something else to be politically correct. We learned there is no tunnel from Grouseland to
the river, and Jefferson’s concept of Manifest Destiny led to several treaties with local Indians who could not read
our fine print, and battles ensued. Grouseland was later a hotel, and will host a Quilt Show this October 10 and 11.
[Rotarian Al’s cell phone rang twice during this program…for those counting.]
Dismissal: President Laura reminded the club of a short Rotary Board Meeting immediately following this meeting,
and yet another Rotary Board Meeting in Chooch’s office a noon next Monday.
President Laura led us all in our national Pledge of Allegiance … this meeting was adjourned.
Next Full Meeting: Tuesday, July 8, noon, Carolina Cherry.
